Cobham wins Chevron contract extension

Perth-based Cobham Aviation Services will introduce the Embraer 190 to its fleet as part of the $160 million extended contract with Chevron Australia.

The 104-seat E190 is the first of its type to be used in Australian closed charter aviation and will service routes across Western Australia, along with the existing five Avro RJ100 aircraft.

The contract includes an initial order of $60 million, with an estimated full value of more than $160 million through to 2020.

Under the contract, Cobham will continue to provide flights between Perth and Barrow Island to service Chevron’s operations, including the $54 billion Gorgon project.

“The introduction of the Embraer 190 aircraft sets a new benchmark for dedicated charter services in Australia and will see Cobham continue to support Chevron’s activities, including the Gorgon Project as it moves from construction to steady state operations,” Cobham Aviation Services president Peter Nottage said.

The two-by-two passenger seat configured E190 will increase fuel efficiency for Cobram and reduce time spent in the air.

Under the initial contract in 2010, Cobham introduced two Avro RJ100 aircraft into Australia, the first of their type to be engaged in the Australian fly-in, fly-out aviation sector at the time.
