Diploma Group and Quest Serviced Apartments have been selected as the preferred proponent by the state government to develop a four-star waterfront hotel in Albany.
The companies had made a submission to the government to develop short stay accommodation that included commercial facilities on the Albany foreshore.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls today said the proposal had stood out from the rest of the submissions.
“Not only does the proposal offer a 4-star accommodation development, it allows for the activation of the waterfront area through a range of ground level commercial uses that appear to be well suited to the needs of the Albany community,” he said.
The state government in 2010 had called for expressions of interest from developers to submit proposals for a four-star or higher hotel, which will sit next to the new Entertainment Centre and form part of the overall Waterfront at Albany project.
In March last year, the government called for Request for Proposals for the development of an Albany Waterfront hotel and had exclusively been working with private consortium Hotel Development Group Albany Pty Ltd before talks broke down late last year.
Mr Grylls said the state government and the Diploma-Quest partnership would enter into a 16-week due diligence period.
Diploma and Quest first joined forces last year and successfully gained approval for a $24 million serviced apartment development in Rockingham.
On completion, that development will include 48 apartments over seven levels.
