A formal opposition alliance has been struck between the Liberal Party WA and The Nationals WA, mirroring similar power-sharing arrangements between the parties implemented throughout the 2010s.
The alliance means Mia Davies and Shane Love will serve as leader and deputy leader of the opposition, respectively, while all nine elected Liberal Party WA members will serve in the shadow cabinet.
David Honey and Libby Mettam will continue to serve as leader and deputy leader of the Liberal Party WA, respectively.
Ms Davies said the agreement formed the basis of a commitment to working together to hold the state government to account.
“We started discussions in good faith and with an understanding that both our parties have a significant task ahead," she said.
"It made sense to tackle the challenge together.”
While details of the agreement are scarce, Ms Davies said it recognised the importance of the Royalties for Regions fund.
Steve Thomas, who will now lead the opposition in the upper house and serve as the shadow treasury spokesperson, had during the state election campaign been critical of The Nationals WA's management of the fund.
Mr Love, in turn, criticised the Liberals' stance on the matter.
Mr Honey today said the agreement would make both parties highly effective leading into the 2025 state election.
