West Perth-based explorer Murchison United NL has proposed a name change to Forte Energy NL at its upcoming general meeting.
Below is the announcement:
Murchison United NL ("Murchison United" or the "Company") (ASX: MUR, AIM: MUU) is pleased to announce it will be seeking shareholder approval at its forthcoming Annual General Meeting to change its name to Forte Energy NL.
The name change decision reflects the work of the past 18 months to establish Murchison United as an emerging West African uranium explorer. This represents a significant and positive move away from the company's original Western Australian connections.
On 25 June 2008, Murchison United entered into a Cooperation Agreement with the French based, industrial and nuclear energy conglomerate Areva NC. The name change also reflects this significant development.
The launch of the new brand name Forte Energy is the final stage in Murchison United's strategic repositioning plan.
"The past 18 months have seen Murchison United acquire a portfolio of exciting uranium prospects in West Africa and focus on proving their prospectivity for shareholders," Managing Director, Mark Reilly said.
"Changing our name to Forte Energy is a clear statement of our new strategic direction and our corporate strengths. Forte Energy represents our new direction and culture."
The Company has secured an extensive portfolio of uranium exploration projects comprising some 15,500 square kilometres of highly prospective tenements in Mauritania and Guinea, West Africa. The Company is focused on harnessing the full potential of this region.
