Woodside, WorleyParsons, KBR win engineering prize

Woodside Petroleum, WorleyParsons and KBR were awarded the overall prize at the 2014 WA Engineering Excellence awards last night for their project entry, the $5 billion North Rankin Redevelopment project, which exports gas to the Karratha gas plant.

Water-based projects won all seven of the awards on offer, including the Mundaring water treatment plant and Chevron Australia’s three deep-water pipelines, which feed natural gas from the Jansz-lo field to Barrow Island.

“The government’s industry support is aimed squarely at challenging engineers to explore new heights in innovation and excellence because this is vital to Western Australia being competitive in what has become a global profession,” Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said.

“If we can effectively market our engineering expertise and find more efficient ways of working, the challenges of global engineering will become lucrative opportunities for our engineers here in WA.”

Mr Marmion said that with engineering able to be carried out almost anywhere in the world, it was important to focus on quality and cost effectiveness.
